Research output: In my field of Paediatric Sleep Research, I lead Australia’s most published research group which is ranked third in

the world for publication output in the last 5 years (Scival). I have published over 200 original research manuscripts, 33 reviews and

14 book chapters, despite working part-time 1986-2003, whilst raising my 3 children (Google Scholar H-index 58, citations 11642).

Contribution to the field of research: My research has made major contributions to understanding the mechanisms which underpin

the risk factors for the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and the translation of this research into reducing SIDS risk through

education. My research on understanding the cardiovascular, behavioural and neurocognitive consequences of sleep disordered

breathing in children, which affects 35% of children, has directly changed clinical practice through increased awareness of the need

for and benefits of intervention. In 2014 I was awarded the Australasian Sleep Association Distinguished Achievement Award for my

contributions to paediatric sleep research and mentorship of early career researchers. I received the International Society for the

Study and Prevention of Perinatal and Infant Death Distinguished Researcher Award for outstanding contributions to SIDS Research

in 2018 and the Massey University, New Zealand Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award in 2019. In 2021 I was awarded an Order

of Australia (AM) for significant service to paediatric medicine, and to infant mortality prevention.

International standing: I have been secretary of IPSA since 2016 and a member of the 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2024 IPSA conference

committees and I chaired the 2020 virtual conference. My experience in leadership roles in paediatric sleep medicine/research

includes being the Chairperson of the Physiology working group of the International Society for the Study and Prevention of Infant

Death (ISPID) since 2008, Chair of the 2010 ISPID conference and a member of the ISPID conference committees in 2014, 2016, 2018

and 2020. I was an Executive Member and Treasurer for the World Sleep Society 2008-2012. I am a member of the European Sleep

Research Society (ESRS) and the Sleep Research Society (SRS) and am on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Sleep Research (since

2005), Sleep Medicine (since 2008) and Sleep (since 2012). Locally, I have been a member Australasian Sleep Association (ASA) since

1997, a member of the ASA Research Committee 2007-2019, Conference Committees 2009, 2010 and 2011 and Chair of the ASA

Paediatric Special Interest Group 2011-2015. I regularly attend and present at IPSA, ISPID, ESRS, ASA and APSS conferences.

Supervision and mentoring: I have supervised 20 PhD, 4 Masters and 50 Honours students to completion and I currently supervise 3

PhD students. I was the Postgraduate Coordinator for the Hudson Institute of Medical Research 2008-2015 and continue in this role

for the Department of Paediatrics (since 2005). I am a mentor for the Monash University and the Australasian Sleep Association

programmes.

Peer review involvement: I frequently review manuscripts (~ 50 per year) and national and international funding applications within

my discipline (~ 10 per year).
